FERRI commissions a test rig to certify its marine doors in house

The new facility replicates the angles of inclination the vessel's hull will experience, shortens lead times and makes testing safer for staff and class surveyors.

Industrias FERRI has commissioned a test rig for marine doors at its facilities. The new installation makes it possible to test the equipment exactly as it will operate on board, simulating actual sea-going conditions and accurately replicating the angles of inclination the vessel’s hull will experience.

Manufacturing for the marine environment always demands the utmost rigour, and being able to test each piece of equipment in the conditions in which it will work makes a real difference.

In-house certification and shorter lead times

The rig brings highly practical improvements to day-to-day work. The first is agility: FERRI can carry out the full certification of the doors directly at its facilities, which reduces lead times and streamlines the delivery process.

Safer testing

What the company highlights above all, however, is the improvement to the working environment. Conducting the validation tests in a fully controlled space is a major step forward in safety, both for the personnel who carry them out and for the classification society surveyors who attend to certify the equipment.

Bespoke doors for every vessel

FERRI designs and manufactures hydraulically or electrically operated side, hangar and garage doors, tailored to each vessel, to integrate into the hull structure while preserving the ship’s lines. With investments like this, the company continues to back practical technology that improves the way it works, because the reliability of equipment at sea depends entirely on the rigour of its testing ashore.
